NFL free agency: Saints sign LB Manti Te’o to 2-year deal

The move was first reported Monday by ESPN and confirmed later Tuesday by nola.com, which cited an unidentified source. Terms of the deal with the Saints were not revealed.

A Hawaii native, Te’o spent his first four seasons in San Diego after being selected by the Chargers in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. The Notre Dame product will reunite with Saints linebackers coach Mike Nolan, who served as a member of the Chargers coaching staff in 2015.

Te’o, 26, started 34 of 38 games with the Chargers and recorded 221 tackles, 1.5 sacks and two interceptions. He ended the 2016 season early on injured reserve with a torn Achilles tendon but is set to return in full force in 2017.cubs_1188
