Seventeen NBA teams to participate in first NBA 2K esports league season

Seventeen NBA teams will participate in the inaugural NBA 2K esports league season, set to debut in 2018, the league announced Thursday.

“This is the first step in what promises to be an extraordinary league, bringing together the world’s best gamers and showcasing elite competition on an international stage,” NBA 2K esports league managing director Brendan Donohue said in a statement. “Our teams have expressed tremendous enthusiasm for esports, and we are looking forward to forming something truly unique for basketball and gaming fans around the globe.”

“And that’s just me watching him when I was younger and before I got in the NBA. You know, when it counts, he’s gonna be ready and he’s gonna perform. So we’ve got to slow him down and eliminate what he does best, and that’s getting everyone involved.”

Over his career, Rondo has averaged about three points and one rebound more during nationally televised games. His field goal percentage is higher and turnovers are down as Rondo seems to be more dialed in when the lights are the brightest.

Rondo is looking forward to facing his old team, for which he played nearly nine seasons.

“It’s going to be crazy,” he said Wednesday, via ESPN. “(Boston’s) fans are one of the best I’ve ever seen, especially at this time of the year. So I’m looking forward to going there and playing.”
